Helping the first steps of Tomorrow's Champions

Los Caballos Pintos has developed an early development program that starts new colts and fillies out with optimum daily interaction with humans, carefully integrating basic social skills during the first days after birth.  Within 8 hours of seeing our new foals, we are gently introducing them to touch all over, vocal directions and early grooming skills.  Within the first week, our foals have learned to take a halter in order to move from stable to paddock and back.  We then move through steps of :

    moving with a lead

    being brushed

having their feet picked up and hooves tapped

feeling a towel rubbing over them, as in bathing

Daily we introduce them to the sensations of being gently touched all over.

After several years of practice, we've learned that early interactions every day can help a new foal stay calm, react more easily to new requests for their attention, and move them into more exacting skills as standing for a ferrier, bathing and clipping.

The first year of Los Caballos Pintos foal sets their development in motion to be ready for more advanced skills in the second year and beyond.  We know this gives potential owners of our babies a great base to train our foals to do just about anything.

Over the years, we've looked at different products that can help us maintain our goals of safe development and health for our horses.  We are now proud to introduce the following products we have found that help reach our goals.

Cheval Internation: these products are natural ingredients that help our horses look wonderful, feel comfortable and heal quickly.  See our page on Cheval International for available products and ordering.

First Line Fencing: is a non-metal fencing, easy to install as threading a needle.  It is safe for our foals because it will not cut them if they get intangled in wiring at any time.  It does not rust, and can be tightened without use of a burdensome come-along. Contact Tom for information on use of this fencing material and ordering your supplies
.

Los Caballos Pintos (The Painted Horses) is the dream of Tom Fernandez and Trisha Owens.  When you talk with Tom and Trisha you'll hear such subjects as "Holistic Care", " Safety Fencing", Gentle Weaning Technigues", "Herbal Care Supplies".  Call or write to them to learn more about how this couple made the decision to dedicate themselfs to early development of quality painted babies, that are ready for your training skills to create Champions for Tomorrow!
